While all but emergency surgeries have been delayed by the COVID-19 crisis, many of our medical partners in hospitals across Bolivia are still working on the front lines.

A 40-foot shipping container departed Illinois, this month. Its carrying 15,856 pounds of medical donations to be delivered to our warehouse in Cochabamba, Bolivia, for use in our surgical programs, distribution to our partner hospitals, and direct material support for patients.

In the fight against the coronavirus, Bolivia has now adopted a three tier system for quarantine, designating each locality as Low, Medium, or High Risk and applying restrictions accordingly. The crisis remains very serious and yet, our work must continue.

Although our mission trips are short term the relationships we create with each other and with our Bolivian counterparts are anything but! To nurture these relationships during this time of social distancing, our recent MSMT missioners gathered on Zoom to connect.

While it was still dark, resurrection began. On this Easter morning, in the midst of a global pandemic, we boldly proclain our Alleluia!

Our postponed mission trip meant that 1,500 pounds of vital medical supplies were left marooned in our Evanston office. Amid this frustration, we realized that some of the materials sitting in our suitcases were suddenly in short supply right here at home.
