FAIR TRADE
Bolivia’s laborers are hardworking and many are skilled, yet their impoverished economy lacks markets for their products. Most Bolivian families struggle without the basic necessities of life, such as clean water and enough food for their children.
Fair Trade is an exchange of goods where the workers themselves negotiate a fair price for their goods with the buyer. Fair Trade is in stark contrast to the majority of products imported into the U.S., which are made in sweatshops under unsafe conditions and through which the profits go to middlemen and factory owners. Fair Trade gives workers a living wage enabling them to provide for their families and bolster the economic health of their communities. |
