The Enterprise Mission

fair trade

Please see our Solidarity Clothing website for more info! Through our Enterprise Mission we have provided over $225,000 of Fair Trade income for Bolivian sewing cooperatives.

Bolivia’s laborers are hardworking and many are skilled, yet their impoverished economy lacks markets for their products. Most Bolivian families barely scrape by and struggle without the basic necessities of life, such as clean water and enough food for their children.

Fair Trade

Many here in the United States, who are blessed with such basics, wish to do more to help those without these resources. Part of this wish manifests in a desire to buy Fair Trade. Fair Trade is an exchange of goods where the workers themselves negotiate a fair price for their goods with the buyer. Fair Trade is in stark contrast to the majority of products imported into the U.S., which are made in sweatshops under unsafe conditions and through which the profits go to the middlemen and factory owners. Many U.S. citizens realize the problems of sweatshops, but don’t know where to start looking for Fair Trade products.

Solidarity Clothing

Solidarity Clothing, the Enterprise Mission’s newest venture, aims to address this problem. We link indigenous Bolivian sewing cooperatives with organizations and schools in the Chicago and beyond. Our goal is to provide a bridge between the cooperative and schools establishing a Fair Trade market for clothing produced by Bolivian workers. This will enable the members of indigenous cooperatives to once again provide for their families and bolster the economic health of their communities. You can buy Solidarity Clothing Fair Trade polo logo shirts at www.solidarityclothing.org.

Dharma Trading Partnership

For two years Solidarity Bridge has worked with several cooperatives composed of skilled but extremely poor indigenous Bolivians artisans. Through the Dharma Trading Partnership we have connected Bolivian cooperatives with Dharma Trading Co., a clothing wholesaler catering to fabric artists. Dharma Trading takes no profit on their fair trade sales. You can buy Dharma Trading Fair Trade clothing products at www.dharmatrading.com.
